Fred Luther, Jr., a devoted family man, proud veteran, and respected member of his community, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Franklin, Tennessee. Born on May 3, 1937, in Bryan, Texas, Fred lived a life filled with purpose and passion, leaving behind a rich legacy of service to both his family and his country.
Fred dedicated 35 years to Middle Tennessee Electric, where he built a reputation as a reliable and hardworking individual. His commitment to his career was only surpassed by his love for his family and his values. As a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, TX, he applied the principles learned in his youth throughout his life.
A proud veteran of the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, Fred’s military service was a significant part of his identity. He loved his God and his country deeply, and he carried that pride with him through every facet of his life. Alongside his military accomplishments, Fred was an avid ham radio operator, enjoying the thrill of communication across distances under the call sign N4MFD. He also had a passion for guns, the great outdoors, and hunting which filled his life with adventure. Additionally, as a dog breeder, he cherished the bonds he formed with his beloved four-legged companions.
Fred is survived by his children: Andy Luther, Leigh Anne (Marcelo) de Melo, and Jessica (Jonathan) Johnson, along with his adored grandchildren, Logan (Abbie) Luther, Gabriel and Antonio de Melo, and Justin (Natalie), Jackson, and Jillian Johnson. They will remember him not just for his passions but for the love and lessons he imparted as a father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Andrea Whitley Luther, whose absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew them together. He was also preceded by his parents, Fred Luther, Sr. and Inez Higgs Luther and a baby sister, Charolette Ann Luther.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Fred’s life with visitation on September 9, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at the Franklin Community of Faith Church of the Nazarene, located at 506 Jordan Rd., Franklin, TN. Shortly afterward, he will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Franklin Community of Faith Church children's department.
Fred Luther, Jr. lived a life marked by devotion, bravery, and a zest for life. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the honor to know him.
